Dyer Chevrolet and Dyer Mazda Subaru present the Dyer Difference Award along with a $3,000.00 check to each month’s recipient. We are committed to recognizing those individuals and organizations whose service and contributions proactively build Indian River County into a strong and caring community.

August 2009: The March of Dimes is the 15th recipient of the Dyer Difference Award. The award monies will be used to support their first annual “Signature Chef Event” on October 26 mission of the Signature Chef Event is to raise donations and awareness that all babies are born healthy and kept healthy. The event will be held at the Moorings Club and will feature 20 head chefs from Vero’s top restaurants preparing their signature meals. July 2009: The United Way Indian River County's Day of Caring event is just around the corner. Day of Caring is an annual event organized by the United Way of Indian River County and will be held on September 26. Last year, approximately 300 volunteers came together to complete projects at 17 different locations throughout Indian River County. Each partner agency has the opportunity to submit a volunteer project.
Past projects have included: A food drive and distribution of to over 500 families who live within the Gifford area through Gifford Youth Activity Center, painting recreational/study rooms at the local Boys & Girls Club, washing/waxing the emergency vehicles at the American Red Cross – North Treasure Coast Chapter, making 96 fleece blankets for a local childcare facility that partners with Childcare Resources of Indian River…and more.
Traditionally held on a Saturday from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, volunteers from businesses support United Way by running workplace giving campaigns and donate their time to help complete these projects. United Way is unique in the sense that
June 2009: Main Street Vero Beach is the organization that hosts Downtown Friday, a monthly event designed to revitalize the historic downtown area of Vero Beach. July’s event attracted over 2500 in attendance. Possibly because of the extended hours of the event, or the highly anticipated “battle of the bands” contest, the residents of Vero Beach were drawn to this enchanting part of the town for an evening of fun and festivities.
May 2009:
Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Indian River County used the Dyer Difference Award to help support their new Golf Education and Mentoring program. Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Indian River County is a one-to-one community, school and site based mentoring program intended to improve the capacity of children to succeed to adulthood in a safe, healthy and productive manner. The agency has been in existence in St. Lucie County since 1984 and expanded over the past five years into Indian River and Okeechobee counties. They have also added a community based “Children of Promise” program that provides matches for children of state and federal prisoners from ages 6 through 18.
April 2009: Every year at the beginning of hurricane season, Treasure Coast residents get to watch WPTV Channel 5's Steve Weagle begin his trek from Sebastian to Boca Raton in support of hurricane awareness for the American Red Cross North Treasure Coast Chapter. This is Steve’s 10th year making the 120 mile trek. By car, this would take a little over two hours; by bike with stops and rests, it will take him nearly five days. The Dyer Difference Award was presented to the American Red Cross as Steve Weagle stopped by Dyer! to do a live weather report right from the showroom. People like Steve heighten public awareness of the American Red Cross and hurricane preparedness.
